BYD Nepal Denies Explosion Claims Following Atto 2 Accident in Simara

Social media posts and videos circulating over the past few days claiming that a BYD Atto 2 exploded following an accident near Simara have been clarified by both police authorities and the company, stating that the incident was a road accident and not a vehicle explosion.

According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday evening around 5:50 PM in Simara, Bara. The BYD ATTO 2, which was reportedly on test, collided with a roadside railing while attempting to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road.

The front section of the vehicle sustained heavy damage in the crash, but the driver escaped safely with only minor injuries.

Police officials also stated that claims circulating on social media suggesting a major fire or explosion are inaccurate. Authorities noted that minor sparks or smoke may have appeared following the impact with the railing, but the situation being portrayed online does not reflect the actual incident.

“We would like to clarify the misinformation currently circulating on social media regarding the BYD ATTO 2 incident near Simara,” the statement reads.

“The vehicle involved did not explode. The incident was the result of a road accident in which the vehicle collided with a roadside railing on the highway. We are relieved to confirm that the driver is safe and sustained only minor injuries.”

The company further stated that the vehicle has been transported to the BYD Service Center in Birgunj for technical inspection and assessment.

“At BYD, safety remains our highest priority. We request everyone to refrain from spreading unverified information and to rely on official updates from authorized sources,” the statement added.

The incident has drawn significant attention online amid growing public interest in electric vehicle safety, though officials and the company maintain that the case was a standard road accident rather than a battery-related failure or explosion.
